    Global cruise passenger volume reached a historic high of 37.2 million in 2025, according to the 2026 State of the Global Cruise Industry report released on April 14, 2026, by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). The report also points to the continued strength and resilience of the industry, with nearly 90% of cruisers indicating they intend to sail again.

    Economic Contribution of Cruise Tourism to Southeast Asia 2024
    Southeast Asia, thanks to a partnership with Singapore Tourism Board, was added to the 2024 CLIA Economic Impact Study project, providing insights into the region for the first time as part of the ongoing global analysis.Southeast Asia benefited from total cruise-linked spending of $5.6 billion in 2024, 6% of the global total. Driven by the high proportion of staff in the global cruise industry residing in Southeast Asia, cruise line staff wages accounted for the highest share, at 38%, of Southeast Asia’s cruise-linked spending, notably above the global average of 10%.In total, cruise activity in 2024 in Southeast Asia generated total impacts of $10 billion USD (5% of global impacts from cruise activity), and produced $4.5 billion USD in contribution to GDP. Highlighting the region as a significant job creator, the cruise industry in Southeast Asia supported 529,000 jobs, filling roles on shore and shipboard all over the world.

    2025 Europe Source Passenger Market Report
    In 2025, Europe produced 8.9 million source passengers who took an ocean-going cruise anywhere in the world. This represents a 5.3% increase from the 8.4 million Europeans who sailed in 2024. Overall, Europeans sailed for an average of 8.6 days per cruise, slightly down from 8.8 in the prior year. Average ages of sailing guests increased by half a year, from 48.0 to 48.5 years.

    2025 North America Source Passenger Market Report
    North America was, once again, the largest source market for ocean-going cruise passengers in 2025, producing more than 22 million cruisers, a 7.5% increase over 2024 and accounting for about 60% of the year’s 37.3 million global ocean-going passengers.The United States alone supplied more than 20.5 million cruise guests, remaining by far the most dominant source country in the world.

    2025 South America Source Passenger Market Report
    1.12 million South Americans sailed on an ocean-going cruise in 2025, a 4.2% increase from the 1.075 million in 2024. This represented more moderate growth than the prior year’s 7.8% increase from 997,000 in 2023. Both average ages and average durations declined year over year, from 45.8 to 45.2 years of age and from 6.8 days to 6.3 days, respectively. Overall, guests were slightly younger and took slightly shorter cruises than in the prior year.

    Contribution of Cruise Tourism to the United States Economy 2024
    In this report, we examine how the cruise industry in 2024 supported economic impacts acrossthe United States. This includes discussion of the cruise industry’s impact on eleven states withocean-going cruise itineraries, namely, Florida, California, Texas, Washington, Alaska, New York,Louisiana, New Jersey, South Carolina, Georgia and Hawaii. Total cruise-linked expenditure in the US reached $33.0 billion in 2024, up 15% from 2023, driven by increased cruise volume.The country accounted for 35% of global cruise-linked spending despite representing only 25% of global passenger visits, highlighting a higher spending intensity than other regions. Cruise line purchases dominated spending at $20.1 billion, supported by the concentration of cruise line headquarters and operations in key US hubs. Passenger and crew spending reached nearly $10.0 billion, cruise line staff wages totaled $2.8 billion.

Cruise line purchases were the largest spend component at €13.7 billion, followed by ship- and capacity-building at €9.6 billion. Passenger and crew spending amounted to €6.4 billion, while cruise line staff wages made the smallest contribution to direct cruise-linked spending at €1.7 billion.
