Master Cruise Counsellor (MCC) Certification Requirements

In order to qualify for Master Cruise Counsellor (MCC) Certification, credits must be achieved as follows:

Pre- and Post- requisites

Enrollee must be an active CLIA Individual Agent Member (IAM) and maintain active membership during the certification completion period; and must have completed and graduated with the Accredited Cruise Counsellor (ACC) designation. Master Cruise Counsellor certification candidates have two years from the date of enrollment to complete the certification requirements and submit documentation per the logbook instructions. Once a CLIA IAM graduates with the MCC designation, the graduate must maintain active CLIA IAM status to maintain the certification. If there is a membership lapse, the IAM may have to pay a re-instatement fee after regaining active CLIA membership. 

In order to qualify for Master Cruise Counsellor (MCC) Certification, credits must be achieved as follows:

  • Mandatory Training – 90 credits (Choose from the following to receive the appropriate amount of credit)
    • Successful completion of 3 Case Studies (50 credits for all 3 case studies)
      • Successful completion of 1 Case Study (15 credits each, 50 for all 3 case studies)
    • Attendance at CLIA’s Cruise360 Conference during completion term following enrollment (40 credits per badge during completion term, 20 credits per badge for prior year attendance)
    • Full attendance at a CLIA Live Training event, not including Cruise360 (30 credits, on per designation)
    • Completion of a CLIA Certificate Program (50 credits)
  • Elective Training – 40 credits received for any combination of the following:
    • CLIA live or online courses/seminars
    • Attendance at CLIA’s Cruise360 Conference during completion term following enrollment (40 credits per badge during completion term, 20 credits per badge for prior year attendance)
    • Completion of CLIA Certificate Program (50 credits)
    • Completion of Approved Global Cruise Line, Executive Partner or Industry Product Seminars or Training Programs (up to 15 credits each, no maximum) (To verify if a program is approved click here to visit the CLIA Industry Partner Training Page or contact CLIA's Professional Development Team at training@cruising.org)
    • Achievement of The Travel Institute’s CTC designation (10 credits)
    • Achievement of Association of Canadian Travel Agencies’ (ACTA) CTC designation (10 credits)
    • Full attendance at a CLIA Live Training Event, not including Cruise360 (30 credits, one per designation)
  • Product Knowledge – Must complete all items
    • Ship Inspections (3 required, Not utilized for attainment of any other CLIA designation)
      • Live or CLIA provided virtual ship inspections
      • Must be a CLIA Global Cruise Line 
      • May use same CLIA Global Cruise Line, but must be for different ships
      • May include ship inspections from 3 years prior to enrollment date
    • Personal Cruise Experiences - Two, 7+ night cruises
      • Must be on two (2) different CLIA Global Cruise Lines evident by providing an itinerary from each
      • Must be on separate product and destination itineraries (i.e. Alaska and Caribbean)
      • Must not be a completed cruise utilized to attain lower level CLIA certifications
    • Stateroom Sales - Twenty-four (24) staterooms booked/deposited through a current CLIA Travel Agency Member during the two-year completion term following enrollment (Not utilized for attainment of any other CLIA designation)
      • Must be on CLIA Global Cruise Line
      • May include bookings 3 months prior to enrollment date
