    Travel Agents Optimistic About 2009 Cruise Sales

    According to a just-completed survey by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), America's travel agents remain optimistic about cruise sales despite lingering economic uncertainty. Focusing on this year's Wave Season, the period between January and March when cruise vacations show heavy bookings, the online survey drew more than 1,000 responses.

    Florida Cruise Ports Report Strong Gains in January

    In an indication that consumer demand for cruising remains strong despite a struggling economy, a recent poll conducted by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) shows that Florida's cruise ports have experienced gains in January 2009 over the same period in 2008. Four out of the five major ports in the state, which annually represent over 50 percent of all cruise embarkations, reported 6.9 percent to 44 percent increases in numbers of cruise passengers processed in January 2009 compared to January 2008.

    Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has announced four inductees to the 2009 CLIA Cruise Industry Hall of Fame. They are: Edwin W. Stephan, a founder and past president of Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and iconic innovator in the cruise industry; Walter Sherota, founder of Gold Coast Cruises and a pioneer in the cruise-only travel agency model; and Josephine Kling and Joyce Landry, founders of Landry & Kling, Inc., visionaries who led the way in seagoing corporate meetings and incentives.
