    CLIA NAMES BUD DARR DIRECTOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND HEALTH PROGRAMS

    Charles (Bud) Darr, formerly of the U.S. Coast Guard, has been named Director of Environmental and Health Programs for Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). He will be responsible for all aspects of the cruise industry’s environmental and health matters including chairing CLIA’s environmental and medical Committees and serving as industry liaison to various international organizations. “Environmental concerns and health issues are two top priorities for the cruise industry.

    CLIA RELEASES REPORT ON INDUSTRY’S 2009 CONTRIBUTIONS

    Details on the North American cruise industry’s overall economic impact in the United States in 2009 were released today by the Cruise Lines International Association. "Despite a protracted global recession, the North American cruise industry continued to make an impact on the U.S. economy in 2009,” said Terry Dale, CLIA’s president and CEO. Last year was tough for everyone. We are encouraged that the current economic climate is showing signs of improvement and cruise lines have been reporting strong activity thus far in 2010.”

    CLIA’S FIRST CRUISE3SIXTY IN CANADA BREAKS RECORDS

    Celebrating women of influence and accomplishment in travel and business and putting a spotlight on key issues facing the industry, Cruise Lines International Association’s cruise3sixty 2010 conference and trade show in Vancouver, June 2-6, had 1,407 registered travel selling professional delegates resulting in 1,220 agents onsite. Including exhibitors and suppliers, cruise3sixty hosted nearly 2100 total delegates. cruise3sixty also welcomed 302 trade show exhibitor booths – both record-breaking numbers.

    CLIA’S CRUISE3SIXTY IN VANCOUVER A SELLOUT

    Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has closed registration for cruise3sixty 2010, June 2-6 in Vancouver, with over 1,400 travel agents registered, marking another sellout for the cruise industry’s largest annual conference and trade show. The response of the agent community is matched by cruise line and supplier participation in the trade show where only a very limited amount of space remained available at press time. CLIA will maintain a waiting list for agents who had not registered by today, should cancellations occur.

    CLIA NAMES NEW MEMBERS TO TRAVEL AGENT ADVISORY BOARD

    Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has announced a new Travel Agent Advisory Board (TAAB) to serve the association from 2010 to 2012. Created in 2004 to provide a strategic travel agent perspective on cruise industry issues and trends, TAAB members represent the entire spectrum of cruise selling operations, from independent home-based retailers to online agencies to major “bricks and mortar” travel retailers. Members also serve as CLIA spokespersons on the occasions when media request a travel agent viewpoint.

    CLIA TAPS CARNIVAL CORP.’S HOWARD FRANK TO BE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

    Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) announced today that Howard S. Frank, vice chairman of the board and chief operating officer of Carnival Corporation & plc, has been named chairman of the association’s board of directors. He has served on the committee for a number of years and, in a normal rotation of responsibilities, succeeds Gregg Michel of Crystal Cruises who has served as chairman since 2008.
