    CLIA ANNOUNCES NEW NATIONAL CRUISE VACATION WEEK PROMOTION

    Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) will launch a new one-week promotion – National Cruise Vacation Week – “The World’s Largest Cruise Sale” this fall. Scheduled for October 17-23 and based on feedback from travel agents and many cruise lines, NCVW expands and replaces CLIA’s highly successful “World’s Largest Cruise Night.”

    CRUISE INDUSTRY’S CONTRIBUTION TO U.S. EMPLOYMENT

    The North American cruise industry generated 329,943 jobs that contributed a $15.2 billion wage impact on the U.S. economy in 2010, a 5.1 percent increase in employment and a 7.0 percent rise in wages over 2009, according to the latest independent study commissioned by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). The total cruise industry economic impact in the U.S. in 2010 was $37.85 billion of gross output, a 7.8 percent increase over last year.

    CLIA’S TRAININGFEST 2011 BEGINS IN JULY WITH NEW SEMINARS, MORE CONVENIENT SCHEDULE AND COMPLIMENTARY EXTRAS

    Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has announced the 2011 schedule for its popular traveling TrainingFest, the two-day program of seminars and a trade show that provides travel agents with the opportunity to earn up to 70 CLIA Cruise Counselor credits. From mid-July through October 1st, TrainingFest will visit 11 cities throughout the United States and two locations in Canada.

    CRUISE INDUSTRY WELCOMES DECISION BY GOVERNOR PARNELL OF ALASKA TO SPEAK AT CRUISE SHIPPING MIAMI NEXT WEEK

    Officials at the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and UBM International, the organizers of Cruise Shipping Miami, the international cruise industry's largest annual exhibition and conference, have welcomed the decision by Governor Sean Parnell of Alaska to address the conference. Parnell is scheduled to speak at the opening State of the Industry plenary session on Tuesday, March 15, in the Miami Convention Center before more than1,500 representatives of all segments of the industry.

    CRUISE LINES INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION (CLIA) PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES NOW TRANSFERABLE TOWARD UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX DEGREE PROGRAMS

    For the first time, member travel agents of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) will be able to pursue professional development through CLIA training and Certification programs while working toward a university degree at the same time. CLIA and University of Phoenix have signed an articulation agreement allowing agents to transfer applicable CLIA Certification and training credits to be assessed toward elective credits when studying for their associate or bachelor’s degree with University of Phoenix.

    Jan Swartz of Princess Cruises and Cunard Line Named Chair of CLIA's Marketing Committee

    Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has announced that Jan Swartz, executive vice president of sales, marketing and customer service for Princess Cruises and Cunard Line, will take the helm of the association’s marketing committee effective January 1, 2011. She succeeds Richard Sasso, president and CEO of MSC Cruises USA, in a normal rotation of responsibilities. Swartz has previously served as a member of the marketing committee.

    Celebrating its 35th Year, CLIA Releases New Environmental Report “Charting a Sustainable Course”

    The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) today released two new resources, an environmental report and complementary video, on the occasion of CLIA’s 35th anniversary this year. The new report, ‘CLIA at 35: Steering a Sustainable Course,’ depicts the evolution of the modern cruise industry as it continues its efforts toward conservation and the minimization of the industry’s impact on the environment in the years since CLIA’s founding in 1975.
