    CLIA WELCOMES ENTRY INTO FORCE OF MARITIME LABOUR CONVENTION

    Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) today announced it welcomes the entry into force of the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) 2006 Maritime Labour Convention (MLC).   The MLC provides further worker protections and rights for crewmembers, providing them specific rights related to all facets of employment, including wages, hours, medical care, annual and shore leave, and room and board.

    STUDY SHOWS U.S. CRUISE INDUSTRY A SUBSTANTIAL CONTRIBUTOR TO U.S. ECONOMY

    The North American cruise industry continued to be a substantial contributor to the U.S. economy in 2012 according to an independent study commissioned by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). The study shows that CLIA’s 26 North American member lines and their passengers and crew contributed over $42 billion in total U.S. economic impact, a 4.6 percent increase from 2011. In addition, the cruise industry generated 356,311 jobs, paying a record $17.4 billion in wages to American workers.

    INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANIZATION (IMO) ADOPTS ADDITIONAL MEASURES FROM GLOBAL CRUISE INDUSTRY TO ENHANCE PASSENGER SHIP SAFETY

    Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) today announced that the IMO has implemented three additional safety-related policies from the 2012 Global Cruise Industry Operational Safety Review at the recently completed IMO Maritime Safety Committee meeting. All ten policies from the Review have now been included in formal IMO standards specific to Passenger Ship Safety.

    Cruise Industry and Seattle Works Host Volunteer Event to Support Seattle Parks’ Restoration of Golden Gardens

    Over 50 volunteers participated today in Golden Gardens Park restoration efforts, hosted by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and its member lines Holland America Line, Seabourn, Windstar Cruises, and Paul Gauguin Cruises in partnership with volunteer organizers from Seattle Works, representatives from the Port of Seattle and staff from Seattle Parks and Recreation. The event included restoration of the park’s shoreline, dunes and wetland.
