Inductees to be Announced on June 5 at cruise3sixty in Vancouver

Fort Lauderdale, FL — March 8, 2010 —

As momentum builds quickly around cruise3sixty 2010, to be held for the first time in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, June 2-6, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) is calling for all members, including cruise lines, suppliers and CLIA’s travel agent members, to submit names for nomination into the 2010 Cruise Industry Hall of Fame.

Each year, the announcement of inductees in three categories of service to the industry becomes the centerpiece of a gala Hall of Fame Dinner held this year on Saturday, June 5. In addition to Hall of Fame selections, guests at the CLIA Hall of Fame dinner will be treated to performances by the internationally acclaimed Blue Man Group, presented by Norwegian Cruise Line and 42Five presented by Celebrity Cruises, acts representing the newest generation of cruise ship entertainment.

"With 1,300 travel agents already registered and all signs pointing to another sellout, tremendous enthusiasm is building for cruise3sixty this year. As always, one of the most exciting and enjoyable moments of the conference will be the announcement of the inductees into the Hall of Fame. As we gather in Canada for the first time to celebrate our accomplishments and prepare for the challenges to come, this will be our opportunity to honor individuals who have helped shape and lead this amazing industry," said Terry L. Dale, CLIA’s president and CEO. "We urge all CLIA members to submit their choices for nominees who have had a lasting, positive impact on our industry."

In its sixth year, the Cruise Industry Hall of Fame honors those individuals, past and present, whose efforts and accomplishments represent a significant contribution to and positive impact on the development and growth of cruise vacations. They are selected based on nominations from CLIA’s membership, followed by a review by a nominating committee made up of members of CLIA’s Travel Agency Advisory Board and Cruise Line Marketing Committee for approval by CLIA’s Executive Committee. Inductees are chosen in three categories:

  • Cruise retailer;
  • Cruise line executive, and
  • An "At Large" category that may be any individual, such as an additional retailer or cruise line executive, a politician, publisher, or shipbuilder, whose accomplishments warrant nomination.

Nominations for the 2010 Hall of Fame are requested prior to March 31, 2010 and may be submitted online.

Nominations should be based on the following considerations:

  • Did the nominee’s accomplishments change or affect the cruise industry in a positive way?
  • Can the nominee be considered a positive role model?
  • What did the nominee accomplish that sets him or her apart from others in the industry?

In 2009, the three selections made for the Cruise Industry Hall of Fame were: Edwin W. Stephan, founder of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines; Walter Sherota, founder of Gold Coast Cruises; and Josephine Kling and Joyce Landry, founders of Landry & Kling, Inc.Nomination forms are available to CLIA member travel agencies via email communications and within the Travel Agent Center (Members Area) on CLIA’s Website, Alternatively, nominations can be submitted to CLIA via
