    CLIA LAUNCHES NEW FORMAT FOR CRUISEXCELLENCE 2.0 REGIONAL TRAINING Thursday

    Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) launches its revamped cruisExcellence 2.0 regional training this month, kicking off an action-packed one-day Saturday program that will be available in 11 cities through October. The newly-designed cruisExcellence 2.0 features a fast paced one-day format offering travel agents new content in one-hour seminars and includes the popular and exclusive to CLIA virtual ship inspections, plus new training segments presented by featured suppliers and vendors in the various cities. An Alaska Expert destination specialist course will be the first specialty training program and will be available during cruisExcellence 2.0 in Los Angeles on Feb. 22, 2014 and in Houston, Texas on March 8, 2014.

    CLIA ANNOUNCES DEVELOPMENT OF GLOBAL PORTS COMMITTEE AND NAMES BO LARSEN DIRECTOR OF PORT ENGAGEMENT AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

    Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) today announced the establishment of a Global Ports Committee as well as new regional committees in the Americas, Australasia and Asia in addition to the regional committee already operating in Europe. CLIA is now focusing more on engaging directly with port communities around the world both on operational and strategic issues. Port partners will now have increased opportunities to engage with CLIA member lines through this newly established Committee structure

    CLIA NAMES DWAIN WALL SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF AGENCY AND TRADE RELATIONS

    Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) announced today the appointment of travel industry veteran Dwain Wall as Senior Vice President of Agency and Trade Relations. Effective immediately, Wall will begin leveraging his 30-plus years of experience in the travel industry and extensive relationships with the world’s leading travel organizations. This newly created position puts Wall at the helm of member and trade relations for the North American travel agencies that comprise CLIA, the largest travel agent association in the world.

    CLIA PROMOTES VALUE OF MEETINGS THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN “MEETINGS MEAN BUSINESS” CAMPAIGN

    Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), alongside many leaders from the travel and event industry, today announced its support for and active participation in the “Meetings Mean Business” campaign. This campaign will create an information and advocacy platform to showcase the positive impacts of the meeting and event industry on businesses, destinations, local economies and the development of human capital. CLIA is a member of the campaign’s coalition along with other businesses, professional associations and destination marketing organizations.

    THE STATE OF THE CRUISE INDUSTRY IN 2014: GLOBAL GROWTH IN PASSENGER NUMBERS AND PRODUCT OFFERINGS

    As the cruise line industry continues to strengthen its global presence and with the economy in an ongoing recovery mode, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and its cruise line members are looking forward to a positive year of growth with a 2014 passenger forecast of 21.7 million worldwide guests on CLIA’s 63 member lines, according to data released today in the association’s annual State of the Cruise Industry findings. To meet demand, these member lines will introduce 24 new ships in 2014-2015 adding a total passenger capacity of 37,546, representing a capital investment of approximately $8 billion in ocean going and river cruise categories.
