Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) announced today that Michael J. McGarry has joined the organization as Senior Vice President of Public Affairs. McGarry is a veteran senior executive with extensive corporate, agency, trade association and political experience, most recently serving as Managing Partner for R2M Solutions, LLC, a risk and reputation management firm he founded in Washington, DC.

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) today opened nominations for the eighth annual Cruise Industry Hall of Fame, with 2012 inductees to be honored at a gala dinner April 28 at cruise3sixty in Fort Lauderdale.

On January 13, 2012, Costa Cruises' vessel, the Costa Concordia, struck rock off the coast of Tuscany, Italy after departing from Civitavecchia, on a seven-day voyage with approximately 3,200 passengers and 1,000 crew members.  While the large majority of passengers and crew were evacuated successfully, there was also loss of life and injuries. Costa Cruises and Italian authorities continue to search for passengers and crew that remain unaccounted for. It will be some time before the cause, or causes, of the collision are determined.

With more than twenty years in finance, accounting and business operations, Hohman will oversee all finance, administration and IT functions at the association.

The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has recently worked with Google to co-host “Cruise Digital Marketing 2011,” with the goal of analyzing and understanding the impact of the digital world from a marketing perspective with reference to the travel industry.

Questions about effectively reaching customers, analyzing existing data to drive results and differentiating one brand from another were only some of the many subjects discussed during the event, which offered a fresh perspective on technology for the marketing experts in the travel industry and beyond.
