ACD/ACP Program for Colleges

The Designation

The designation of either the Associate Cruise Degree (in the United States) or the Associate Cruise Program (in Canada) represents the successful completion of 80 credits of CLIA training by a student in a CLIA-approved Learning Center.

Upon active employment with a CLIA designated agency, and a letter from the owner or manager indicating that the applicant has completed six months of full time employment, the ACD/ACP graduate may apply for an ACC designation. The ACD/ACP designation is accepted as completion of the ACC Mandatory and Elective classroom or home study requirements.

The Proposal

To provide CLIA training and exposure for the selling of cruise products by students enrolled in participating Learning Centers located in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Participating Learning Centers

Participating Learning Centers are defined as Universities, Colleges, Community Colleges and Proprietary schools that have applied for and maintain an active CLIA membership for students to utilize for testing and Associate Counsellor qualification purposes.

The Training

With a minimal class size of 15 students, CLIA provides an instructor, at CLIA’s expense (when the Learning Center provides the meeting room and all audio visual equipment) to present 5 classroom programs worth 15 credits each, over a period of one week (or a shorter period, at the discretion of the Learning Center). Attendance at all seminars earns an additional 5 credits for participation, equaling a total of 80 credits for the period of instruction. Credits and a certificate of completion are awarded by the CLIA Testing Center upon achieving a passing grade on the Certification examinations.

The classes presented would be:

  • Cruise Vacations – An Introduction
  • Principles of Professional Selling
  • Power Selling Techniques
  • Psychology of Selling
  • Cruising – Knowing the World You Sell

The Cost

Learning Center: The Center is required to apply for CLIA designation and pay all required fees ($319.00 US plus $80 US as a one-time application fee. Annual fees are currently $319 US per year). All students are enrolled under this CLIA number for the purpose of testing out.

The Student: The student is required to pay an application fee of $50 US directly to CLIA for the ACD/ACP program. This fee is for the inclusion of the student in the database, the processing and notification of exam grades and the granting of the ACD/ACP certificate. Additional fees apply for online courses, textbook and video purchase

Local travel agents are invited to attend each seminar, at the normal CLIA program charge, to earn ACC and MCC credits and provide a networking possibility for future employees. This allows CLIA the ability to schedule local training in a more effective way. Additionally it addresses the number two reason agents do not currently attend seminars – convenience of locations.
