  • Celebrity Cruises recently debuted “The Bar at the Edge of the Earth” onboard Constellation, and will launch the second onboard Summit in February, in partnership with renowned entertainment enterprise Cirque du Soleil. The distinctive lounge features surreal characters created exclusively for Celebrity by Cirque du Soleil to interact with guests and present extraordinary digital projections and other visual entertainment.
  • Celebrity Xpeditions, the line’s series of exotic travel experiences, has been expanded to offer one Xpeditions experience on every major Celebrity itinerary. In addition to cruise vacations in the enchanting Galapagos Islands, the Arctic and the Antarctic, the Celebrity Xpeditions lineup now includes experiences in the Great Pyramids of Egypt, Easter Island, Machu Picchu, Copan, Johnson Space Center, and the Matterhorn, among others.
  • The world’s first cruise line to offer “Acupuncture at Sea,” Celebrity has announced plans to expand that exclusive program from one ship to at least five, complete with dedicated space onboard its Millennium-class fleet.
  • Guests interested in honing their computer skills or simply staying in touch with home or office via e-mail will find a “home” in Celebrity’s High Seas Computing centers, which offer courses ranging from web site creation to digital photography.
  • From world affairs to wines, Celebrity’s “Celebrity Discoveries” program will enrich guests’ cruise experience with an expanded array of fascinating people and topics in 2005, including noted celebrities and authorities, caricature artists, prominent wine makers, and naturalists in Alaska, Hawaii and South America.
  • Celebrity’s “ConciergeClass,” a category of accommodations that offers the perfect compromise between the line’s stylish staterooms and luxury suites, will more than double this year, from 100 to 228 staterooms on each Millennium-class fleet. ConciergeClass also is offered on the balance of the fleet.
  • To truly “Savor the Caribbean,” travelers are invited to sail with Celebrity from February 6 through March 27, when the line resumes that series of the same name in partnership with Bon Appetite magazine. For the second year, the two organizations will pair some of the nation’s hottest chefs with one of the industry’s highest-ranked ships, Millennium, on this special culinary-themed series of seven-night cruises.
  • Celebrity will offer short itineraries on a regular basis for the first time in 2005, including 3- to 5-night cruises in the Pacific Northwest, and 4- and 5-night cruises in the Caribbean. In another Celebrity ‘first,’ the line will deploy four ships to Europe this year – up from three in 2004 – based on guest demand. Century, Constellation, Galaxy and Millennium all will ply the waters of Europe, in a combination of classic and new Mediterranean and Northern Europe voyages.

  • Due to overwhelmingly positive demand, Queen Mary 2 will double her Transatlantic Crossings from 13 in 2004 to 26 in 2005, perhaps signaling a return to a more genteel style of travel.
  • Queen Mary 2 will make a total of 16 Caribbean cruises in 2005, with itineraries ranging from five to 14 days, departing from either Ft. Lauderdale, FL, or New York. Ports of call include St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Curacao, Bonaire, Barbados, Martinique, and St. Kitts. New for 2005 is the “Caribbean Authors Series,” a programme which features novelists who write fiction with a Caribbean flavor.
  • Queen Mary 2 will continue her eclectic enrichment programs with guest lecturers from the worlds of architecture, design, the culinary arts and literature.
  • The legendary Queen Elizabeth 2 will explore 38 countries on her 108-day World Cruise, which departed New York on January 3, 2005. Grand suites were priced at $399,799 per person, double, but have been sold out for some time. Maiden calls include Philip Island, Fremantle and Exmouth, Australia; Sokhna, Egypt; and Marmaris, Turkey.
  • Queen Mary 2 was named by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Jan. 8, 2004, and then sailed its maiden voyage on Jan. 12.
  • Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2 met in New York on April 25 and then sailed in tandem across the Atlantic to Southampton, England. This marked the first time two Cunard Queens crossed together.
  • Queen Mary 2 is a ship of superlatives boasting the first planetarium at sea; an exclusive Canyon Ranch SpaClub®; the only Veuve Clicquot Champagne Bar at sea; the largest wine collection, dance floor and library afloat; and the only Todd English restaurant at sea.
  • The Kings Court dining pavilion aboard Queen Mary 2 features breakfast and lunch buffets, and then transforms into four distinct venues in the evening. Lotus features Asian creations; La Piazza serves pasta, pizza and other Italian specialties; and The Carvery includes the finest carved beef, lamb, pork and poultry. In Chef’s Galley, renowned chefs show off their talent by teaching passengers how to prepare their meal just prior to dining.
  • Oxford Discovery, under the direction of the University of Oxford, provides guests aboard QM2 the opportunity to enrich their minds on a variety of topics from Shakespeare to the art of the Tate and the Met.

  • In the last few years, countless enhancements have been made aboard the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder cruise ships, as well as Disney’s private island paradise, Castaway Cay. As a result, today Disney Cruise Line approaches 2005 as the top family cruise vacation.
  • Age-Specific Activities – In response to guest feedback, the Disney Wonder debuts three new areas to accommodate the varied interests of both teens and adults.
  • Aloft is a teen haven perfect for relaxing or socializing with newfound friends. With a cozy décor that is a cross between a college dormitory and a trendy coffee shop, the space is loaded with comfy couches and overstuffed chairs. The venue features the latest video games, a collection of magazines, MP3 listening stations, a variety of board games, computers with internet access and a bar that dispenses both soft-drinks and smoothies. Aloft hosts a variety of activities, some specifically for younger teens, others for older teens and some designed for the entire group. The Disney Wonder is the first ship in the Disney fleet to feature this new teen area.
  • New for adults are Cove Café and Diversions. Cove Café, an indoor lounge alternative adjacent to the Quiet Cove pool, provides an area for guests to relax with a popular magazine, access their email and enjoy gourmet coffee and tea, specialty drinks and light fare. Diversions, a traditional pub located in the ship’s nighttime entertainment district, is designed to host televised sporting events, trivia-based game shows and sing-along karaoke.
  • The new Pirates IN the Caribbeanparty is taking over the Disney Cruise Line ship, transforming guests aboard into pirates for the evening and treating them to a scrumptious dinner feast and adventurously themed deck party that would make Captain Jack Sparrow proud. This newly themed evening brings together the traditional cruise dinner and deck party with a rowdy buccaneer bash combining invigorating entertainment, themed dining experiences and brand new special effects for an evening that’s perfect for every member of the family.
  • For the first time, Disney Cruise Line is catching the wave to southern California, repositioning its flagship Disney Magic for the summer of 2005, offering seven-night cruise vacations from the Port of Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera. Just in time to celebrate one of Disney’s biggest milestones – Disneyland’s big 5-0 – the highly distinctive 2,600-passenger ship is scheduled to sail 12 consecutive seven-night cruise vacations each Saturday from the Port of Los Angeles to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán and Cabo San Lucas between May 28 and August 19, 2005.

News to Use in 2005

  • HAL is investing $225 million in the Signature of Excellence initiative to provide unparalleled product and service enhancements to its fleet of five-star ships. The comprehensive enhancements will focus on five areas central to the HAL guest experience: spacious, elegant ships and accommodations; sophisticated five-star dining; gracious, unobtrusive service; extensive enrichment programs and activities; and compelling worldwide itineraries. Enhancements, and in some cases construction build-outs, will be completed by the end of 2006.
  • Two cruises to explore the Amazon River to Manaus, Brazil. The ms Prinsendam sails in November roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale and the ms Veendam sails in September from Vancouver to Tampa with a crossing of the Panama Canal and visits to ports in South America and the Amazon.
  • Holland America Line is expanding its Mexico cruises in 2005, offering a total of 46 sailings including 25 new seven-day itineraries, one five-day cruise, and two eight-day holiday departures aboard the Vista-class ms Oosterdam, which will be seasonally homeported in San Diego beginning January 22, 2005. The ms Ryndam also sails to Mexico, featuring relaxing 10-day cruises of the Mexican Riviera and Sea of Cortez.
  • The ms Amsterdam features an extraordinary 62-day adventure around the Pacific Rim. The cruise sails Oct. 6 from Seattle to Singapore on the North Pacific Explorer Cruise, calling at such exotic ports as Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka and Korsakov, Sakhalin, Russia; Yokohama, Osaka and Nagasaki, Japan; Cheju City, South Korea; Dalian, Xingang and Hong Kong, People’s Republic of China. The Amsterdam then continues through the South Pacific, visiting Bali, Indonesia; Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane, Australia; Noumea, New Caledonia; the Fiji Islands; Samoa; Christmas Island, Kiribati; and Honolulu, Hawaii before arriving in San Diego Dec. 7.
  • In 2005 Holland America Line’s “Elegant Explorer,” the 793-passenger Prinsendam, sails a longer Grand World Voyage – 116 days – from Ft. Lauderdale departing Jan. 13. This “collector’s” voyage cruises the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Mexican Riviera, Hawaii, South Pacific, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, India, Indian Ocean islands including The Seychelles, South Africa, Atlantic Ocean islands, and South America before concluding its grand journey in Fort Lauderdale on May 6 or New York on May 9.
  • In January 2006 the fourth Vista-sister, the 1848-passenger Noordam is scheduled to join the fleet.
  • Vista ship Westerdam sails two 15-day transatlantic crossings. One departs Ft. Lauderdale Apr. 27 for Rome; the other sails Oct. 22 from Rome to Ft. Lauderdale. The Prinsendam also sails two crossings, departing May 9 from New York to Barcelona on a 14-day cruise that highlights Iberia. In the fall, the ship departs Nov. 9 from Lisbon on a 15-day cruise that explores Morocco, the Canary Islands, Madeira and Azores before arriving in Ft. Lauderdale.
  • Holland America Line has added new activity choices on Half Moon Cay, its award-winning private Bahamian island. These include horseback riding, a stingray lagoon experience, new Kids Aqua Park and personal watercraft adventure guided jet ski park for teens.
  • HAL will sail seven ships on 134 cruises to Alaska during the 2005 sailing season, adding more departures from Seattle, more private verandahs with a new 1,848-passenger Vista-class vessel and more glacier sightseeing than ever. Two ships sail from Seattle and five sail from Vancouver, BC.
