JIM LIDA NAMED CLIA MARKETING DIRECTOR
NEW YORK, November 30, 2006 - Twenty-year cruise industry veteran Jim Lida has joined Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) as director of marketing, a new position created to drive even greater visibility of CLIA, its myriad programs and the cruise industry.
As director of marketing, Lida will be responsible for managing all the association's consumer and trade marketing efforts, including agency membership and training, collateral production and development, e-marketing and Web content, trade advertising, CLIA's annual National Cruise Vacation Month and World's Largest Cruise Night and other CLIA promotional initiatives and programs.
Lida joins the CLIA team in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with broad marketing experience, ranging from cruise lines' public relations to travel agency distribution, to destination tourism and operations. Most recently, he served as the assistant director of the cruise marketing division at Port Everglades, the port for Greater Fort Lauderdale, where he was a liaison between the port and cruise companies.
Previously, he was director of corporate communications for American Classic Voyages, and manager of public relations for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. during a critical growth phase for the company. Lida also served as director of marketing and public relations for Cruise & Vacation Shoppes, Inc., a Fort Lauderdale-based travel agency consortium with 350 members.
"I am confident that Jim will make an immediate contribution as a key member of the association leadership and will drive increased visibility of CLIA, our programs and the cruise industry as a whole," said Bob Sharak, CLIA's executive vice president of marketing and distribution. "His broad cruise background, coupled with his marketing communications expertise will prove invaluable."
"I've always had great respect for CLIA throughout my career in the cruise industry," said Lida. "In light of CLIA's merger with ICCL and upcoming relocation to South Florida, I'm truly honored to be presented with the opportunity to join the CLIA team during such a defining moment in its proud history."
Lida, who resides in Weston, Fla., earned a bachelor's in English from the University of Kansas and is a member of the Public Relations Society of America - Gold Coast Chapter.
