CRUISE SHIP LOUNGES MIRROR SHORESIDE TRENDS

Today's Ships Feature Variety of Specialty Bars

You could be sitting at a sports bar, surrounded by memorabilia, watching the game on a big-screen TV and talking sports with fellow patrons. Or perhaps you’d rather lounge a while at a trendy martini bar, sipping a specialty cocktail and enjoying live piano music. Or you might be having the time of your life at a hot dance club. You might be surprised to learn that you can have all these experiences in the middle of the ocean aboard a cruise ship.

In fact, some of today’s trendiest lounges can be found aboard the cruise ships of the Cruise Lines International Association’s (CLIA) fleet of nearly 150 vessels.

In addition to full-service bars and lounges, cruise lines feature an assortment of specialty watering holes designed to satisfy a variety of tastes, including:

  • Wine bars featuring vintages from around the world, both by the bottle or the glass.
  • Martini bars offering both classic and specialty martinis.
  • Champagne bars, ideal for sampling the bubbly in a sophisticated atmosphere.
  • Piano bars/jazz bars where guests can enjoy a leisurely cocktail as piano music fills the air.
  • - Cigar bars offering fine cigars, after-dinner drinks and good conversation.
  • Sports bars where fans and enthusiasts alike can view “big games” on satellite television or debate whose favorite team is better while enjoying a brew.
  • Dance clubs that keep revelers moving through the night with everything from hip hop to salsa to Big Band classics.

“Today’s cruise ships are very much in tune with today’s trends and feature environments that equal – and often surpass – those found at the most exclusive shore-side resorts,” says Terry L. Dale, president and CEO of CLIA.
