Worldwide Destinations:
South America : Puerto Ordaz

Local Interests

There are a handful of tour operators in Puerto Ordaz, some more reputable than others. Some of the best include Selva Tours (Edificio Monterrey, Avenida Caura, 0286/962-2480) and Keyla Tours (0286/922-9195).

Puerto Ordaz attracts nature lovers from all over the world. You won't find museums and art galleries here; instead, you will be enchanted by three gorgeous nature reserves. South of the City Centre is Parque Cachamay. The Caroní River is the star here. As you walk through the park, you'll notice the river picks up speed. Soon, the smooth flow of the river crescendos into a series of rapids. Finally, the rapids converge to form a gorgeous line of waterfalls! Parque Loefling is right next to Parque Cachamay. Loefling will appeal to animal lovers. Besides the small zoo that is found on the premises, you can interact with free-roaming monkeys and capybaras as you hike around the park.

The most spectacular of the three parks may be Parque La Llovizna. The park is actually comprised of a series of about thirty small islands on the Caroni River. The islands are packed together closely, and a series of bridges connects them all. There is a waterfall here, the sixty-five foot high Salto La Llovizna. Llovizna means drizzle, and the mist that comes off of the waterfall will help to cool you down.

Los Castillos de Guayana are a pair of castles overlooking the Orinoco River. The castles are a perfect vantage point for sunset viewing.
